Annie departed from Queenstown (County Cork, Ireland) on December 20, 1891 aboard the S.S. Nevada.
Her brothers Anthony and Phillip along with Annie were some of the 148 steerage passengers aboard.
Annie originally thought to be only 15yrs was actually 17 when she left our shores.
The trio would spend 12 over the days over Christmas at sea arriving in New York on Thursday evening, December 31.
They were processed through Ellis Island the following morning, New Year's Day. She was the first immigrant to the United States to pass through Ellis Island.
All three children were soon reunited with their parents who were already living in New York.
Annie and siblings journey are remembered by a beautiful statute (pictured) outside the Cobh Heritage Centre where her story is well illustrated in an exhibition. She is also remembered in the song Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears.
Watch this space for more information about Annie over the coming weeks and months to commemorate Annie's brave journey.
